WELLINGTON – WAIKANAE

Section Distance = 91 km
Total Distance = 91 km
While it was neither the starting point or date I had planned, I have finally started my epic journey along New Zealand’s Te Araroa Trail (the long pathway)!
With the goal of completing all 3000km (in whichever order covid will allow 😅) I departed Wellington last Monday, and what a send off!!! Gale force winds, rain and even an earthquake in the midst it will be a long time before I forget my first few days on trail.
On the other hand there were spectacular views, my first beach section and my first trail angels!!!
Why have I decided to embark on this mad endeavor?
My main goals are to explore this beautiful country and fundraise for community groups working for wildlife conservation along the trail route (I will introduce you all to them along the way 😉)
#walkforwildlife

And although there will be a multitude of challenges, “only those who risk going to far, can possibly find out how far one can go!”
Next stop Palmerston North…via a very steep, very muddy Tararua Range 😬🥾🏔
